Q&A: Donnie Hale talks New Albany, recruiting

January 5, 2009

Donnie HaleHoosier Hills Hoops: With New Albany again performing at a high level, people are wondering if the Bulldogs can best last season’s effort. What are your thoughts?

Donnie Hale: I think we can be better than we were last year. We’re really quick and our defense is good. Come tournament time — as we get more experience — we will be hard to beat.

HHH: How has your role changed from last season until now?

Hale: Last year our team had lots of experience, and those players with experience were the leaders of the team. This year, I have more of a leadership role. We still have great seniors that get us all on the same page and focused for practice and games.

HHH: What colleges currently have scholarship offers on the table?

Hale: Purdue and Xavier are currently the only offers.

HHH: Tell us what you like about each school that has offered.

Hale: I feel really comfortable with the coaches and I feel that I can fit in with the style of game they play (at both schools).

HHH: What other schools have been in regular contact?

Hale: Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Florida State.

HHH: At this point, do you have a clear favorite?

Hale: No, not right now. I still have a few visits I’d like to go on to see what they have to offer.

HHH: When do you expect to make a college choice?

Hale: I think I’d like to end the process by the end of my junior year so I can sit back and enjoy my senior season.
