USSSA Nationals: Tuesday notebook

USSSAThe USSSA National Tournament — the final event of the AAU season for many teams — began earlier today at the Spiece Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne. Team Southern Indiana 2010 Red, 2011 and 2012 are all in action, along with a handful of other Southern Indiana teams and players.

  • Team Southern Indiana 2011, with a handful of late roster additions, built an early lead and then held off OAA Select (Mich.), 68-62, in their opening pool game. Jeffersonville’s Darryl Baker poured in 28 points, and Bedford North Lawrence’s Braden Knight added 10.
  • The Northwest Ohio Basketball Club got past Team Southern Indiana 2012 64-58. Scottsburg’s Max Clemons totaled 14 points in the loss, and Switzerland County’s Keegan Kincaid chipped in 12.
  • Team Southern Indiana 2010 Red flew past a traveling club team from the country of Lithuania, 72-38. Lanesville’s Bryant Conder netted a game-high 15 points, Brownstown’s Taylor Wischmeier scored 13 and New Albany’s Tate Rohlfing and Corydon’s Garett Ross each added 10.
  • In Los Angeles at the Double Pump Best of the Summer event, Jeffersonville’s Evan Maschmeyer scored 14 points as his Louisville-based Derek Smith All-Stars team improved to 2-0 in pool play.
  • Team Southern Indiana 2012 rebounded in their second pool game and flew past the Spiece Gym Rats (Bragg) 63-42. The Madison duo of Sean Hoevener and Seth Pennington led the way with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Team Southern Indiana 2011 completed day one with a 2-0 record, beating Fieldhouse Elite King’s Court 77-61 tonight. Knight racked up 27 points, Bedford North Lawrence’s Logan Bailey added 15 and Baker 14.
  • The Spiece Gym Rats (Tolson) got revenge from a pool play game earlier this month at the Best of the Midwest, edging Team Southern Indiana 2010 Red 84-78. In the loss, Ross and Wischmeier each scored 15 points, and New Albany’s Brad Benson chipped in 12.
  • Spiece Indy Heat (Downs), which features New Albany’s Donnie Hale and Jeffersonville’s Kegan Clark, got past DDI (Oh.) 71-59 this afternoon in their opening game.
