Sherron Wilkerson will serve as head coach of Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red — the program’s flagship 16 and under team — next spring, the program announced today.

“I’m confident we will build quite a team in this age group,” said Wilkerson, who coached Team Southern Indiana’s 2011 group last year. “There’s a lot of talent that exists across Southern Indiana in the 16 and under age, and I look forward to working with this group of young men.”

The team will begin an aggressive schedule of play the second weekend of April, Wilkerson said. Invitations will be sent in February to selected players, and tryouts for remaining slots will be held in late March.

“I’m excited about this group, I really am,” Wilkerson added. “I’ve already been in contact with a handful of players and I think we’ll put together a nice team that represents the area very well in many ways. I’m looking forward to this.”

Team Southern Indiana is also planning to form a second 2012 team for the upcoming spring and summer. Tryouts will be held in late March.
