Hoosier Basketball Magazine tabs top-60 senior boys

Hoosier Basketball Magazine has released its list of the state’s top-60 senior boys’ basketball performers for the 2009-10 season, magazine publisher Garry Donna announced. The players were selected from approximately 1,600 senior players statewide.

Six players who participated in the 2010 IHSAA State Finals highlight the list of invitees: Christopher Bond and Tyrae Robinson of Bowman Academy (Class A champion), Trey Hughes of Barr-Reeve (Class A runner-up), Andrew Rudakas of Wheeler (Class 2-A champion), Latroy Taylor of Gary Wallace (Class 3-A runner-up) and Terone Johnson of North Central (Class 4-A champion).

The top-60 players invited to participate also include seven of the highest scoring seniors in Indiana for the 2009-10 season: Deshaun Thomas of Fort Wayne Luers (31.8 ppg), Chrishawn Hopkins of Indianapolis Manual (25.8), Matt Trimnell of Seymour (24.4), Jake Kitchell of South Central (Union Mills) (23.5), Jesse Berry of Lafayette Jeff (23.5), Russell Byrd of Fort Wayne Blackhawk (23.2) and Taylor Wischmeier of Brownstown Central (22).

Statistical evaluation, game observation and statewide research was conducted throughout the regular season and the 2010 state tournament to determine Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s Top-60.

Two sessions of the Top 60 Workout will be hosted on Sunday, April 11, 2010, in conjunction with the IHSAA and the IBCA, on the campus of Marian University in Indianapolis.

Twenty-eight boys of the top-60, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session from 1 to 3p.m. The remaining 32 players, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session from 3:30 to 5:30p.m.

Indianapolis Arlington coach Larry Nicks will direct both sessions. Four other outstanding Indiana boys’ high school coaches from the IBCA have been invited to assist Nicks.

Southern Indiana who will attend the workout include: A.J. Adams, Jeffersonville; Julian Boatner, Bloomington North; Kegan Clark, Jeffersonville; Donnie Hale, New Albany; Bailey Howard, Brown County; Trey Hughes, Barr-Reeve; Kevin Kidd, East Central; Hank LaRue, Evansville Mater Dei; Billy Newton, Shakamak; Leon Tillman, Evansville North; Matt Trimnell, Seymour and Taylor Wischmeier, Brownstown.

Erik Fromm of Bloomington South was selected but is unable to attend, and Clinton Happe of Evansville Reitz was selected but declined to attend.
