lol. Cracks me up he is coaching at Scottsburg, that is so Winchester. His attitude is, I dont care about rivalries, I want to coach.... period. I agree, Scottsburg got the best possible person to rebuild the program. He is a key factor of my son playing at the next level and he will bring out the best of the players he has. Scottsburg parents and boosters need to learn and understand that his personality is 100% dedicated to the players alone. He is not polictial and will NOT socialize to either. Thats just how he is. Personally, I think its a good philosophy to have. Scottsburg is lucky to have him.

Honestly, I really don't understand why Winchester would even apply for a coaching job at Scottsburg and I don't understand why he would leave the position he had at Western for a High School coaching job and I don’t understand why Scottsburg would hire someone without any experience at coaching high school ball. Wasn't he passed over once for this position? I am sure there were plenty of high school positions he could have applied for and gotten. There is surely something unknown here. Anyway, I have heard and been around some of his coaching philosophies and question his ability to coach high school kids and I don’t think he will fit in with what the Scottsburg parents and fans are used to, so don’t expect him to be your best friend. I hope I am wrong because I wish him success. I wish you luck, Anthony, wearing that purple and gold (except against Austin where I hope we kick your butt), but for a guy who wore Black and White with such pride and admiration from his followers, I don't think this was an admirable decision from you. On the other hand, if you were broke, did not have a job and in poverty lane, it would be a decision of desperation, but we all know this is not so. I can’t wait to see how this all works out.

Bear you sound like a disgruntled Cleveland Cavs fan... Do you have Winchester Jerseys you are going to burn now?

Bulldogfan,
I really don’t lose any sleep over a Winchester's decisions. With that said, I didn’t mean to make it all sound bad. There are many reasons why this is not a good career change for him. I mean the man is in a nice position at the college level where he can be seen by other colleges where an opportunity may open up for him at the college level. I don’t think many college coaches are going to be driving down 31 to watch him coach. This step just appears to be a very poor career change for him: somewhat like going backwards and for his age his current job could have took him places. Could he just love Scott County so much he wants to live here again. Like I said something else is going on here that we just don’t know.

Getting back to your comment; No, I never owned a Winchester jersey. I may have a magnet or two here somewhere. I feel sort of like JustinBeaver..just don’t like the idea of that decision and the decision does show, as Lanesville Fan stated, just the type of person he is. Do you think Bob Knight would have applied for a job at UK? On the other hand Rick Pitino did take a job at U of L after previously being loved as a UK coach, but look where that took him the last 3 or 4 days lololol ; ). Seriously though, I just believe he is closing the door on his future opportunities, but sometimes you just have to live and learn.

Maybe thats the whole point in all of this. Anthony doesnt do what people want, thinks, he should do; he does what ultimatly makes him happy. Agree or not with his decision, you have to admire him for making it. Personally, I can understand the situation. Anthony really enjoyed coaching that age group in AAU a few years back. Being in the college level a few years, maybe he felt he could reach the kids at the high school level more. Money doesnt buy happiness plus hes already got that. Knowing how prepared this guy is, im sure he has a job (on the side) lined up to pay the bills that gives him time to coach these kids. Anthony has been taught all his life how to succeed and how to block outside influences that detour that goal. Even if your an Austin fan, you cant hate him for coaching at another school. The position wasnt open at Austin. He's not supposed to give up what he wants in life waiting for only that school. Now for the bad news: He knows alot of physical college drills. I feel sorry the the Scottsburg players.

Coach Winchester must know what he wants more than some of the posters who just dont "understand" why he is taking this job. It is his choice to make, just like the rest of us when we make the choice to do what we want for our own careers. To not "understand" just shows a bias based upon a rivalry that is not as big as some want it to be.

Last time Coach Winchester played a game in Meyer Gym he scored 50 points. I just hope his first game as a coach his team can score 50 points. The program is in that dire of shape. I, like many, hope he can turn this thing around and get it back to a level that is better than average.

I gotta agree with Bear on this one.If you recall Anthony accepted a job to be on Darrin Horn's staff at South Carolina but reconsidered and went back to Western. If he's trying to climb the coaching ladder he's doing it in an awfully unusual way. From being on an SEC staff to Sunbelt staff to Scottsburg H.S.He seems to be going in the wrong direction.

I don't like it when someone from Austin crosses over to the purple and gold. Some may call it childish.I call it loyalty.I can overlook Anthony though. He probably really wants to be a head coach.Scottsburg is a good H.S. job.Especially for a first time head coach. There are several other situations where Austin people have crossed over and they crossed the line as far as I'm concerned and I lost all respect for them. Those people completely turned their backs on Austin.I don't see Anthony doing that.I wish him well.

I dont get this... The man wanted the job so he applied and he got the job... Whats the big deal? It is his decision, he is the one who has to live with it.. Are you all his life coach or what? Congrats to Winchester for receiving a job that he wanted..

Bulldogfan,
People are just voicing their opinions on this forum. No one is trying to make a decision for him because it is his decision to make. It’s nice to be able to take a job that you enjoy or make a career choice based on personal reasons and not on the logical thing to do. Maybe his goals are not as high as we thought they were and maybe he is content with being a high school basketball coach. I personally just saw him doing more. As far as the rivalry thing goes, I am not devastated by his choice by any means, I just don’t agree, given the circumstance, that he made an admirable decision. That’s just my opinion and you have yours and that’s ok.
