  • [ 4/20/2008 ] South Well Represented on Indiana All-Star Team: Edgewood's Garrett Butcher, New Albany’s Braydon Hobbs, Evansville Memorial’s Kyle Kuric and Washington’s Tyler Zeller were named to the Indiana All-Star team today. Tecumseh coach Kevin Oxley will serve as one of the team’s assistants, and Muncie South boss Rick Baumgartner is slated to be head coach. The Indiana All-Stars will scrimmage the Indiana Junior All-Stars on June 9 in Washington and June 11 in Marion, and will face the Kentucky All-Stars on June 13 at Conseco Fieldhouse and again on June 15 at The Gardens in Louisville, Ky.
  • [ 4/20/2008 ] Zeller Totals 15 in Derby Festival Win: Washington’s Tyler Zeller scored 15 points to help his Black team defeat the Gold squad 128-121 last night in the adidas Derby Festival Basketball Classic at the University of Louisville’s Freedom Hall. Zeller also captured the event's three-pointer contest title, edging UCLA signee Jerime Anderson for the crown.
  • [ 4/14/2008 ] Derby Festival Game Slated for Saturday: Mr. Basketball Tyler Zeller will be Indiana’s lone representative in the 2008 adidas Derby Festival Basketball Classic this Saturday. Zeller, a University of North Carolina signee, will join University of Kentucky recruits DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller on the Black Team. The Washington star will also compete in the festival’s Night of the Future Stars event on Friday at Bellarmine.
  • [ 4/11/2008 ] Grubbs Gone at Jennings County: The rumor mill from North Vernon has been mum, but George Grubbs will not return as Jennings County's coach. Grubbs, who tallied a 95-80 record in eight seasons at the school, guided the Panthers to a 14-8 record last season.
  • [ 4/11/2008 ] McCallum, Jr. Leaving Bloomington North?: Former Indiana University assistant Ray McCallum, Sr. was named head coach at Detroit today, and now many are pondering where his son, Ray McCallum, Jr., a Class of 2010 standout who played at Bloomington North the past two seasons, will land. The younger McCallum, a 6-foot point guard, is expected to join Indiana Elite One this spring and summer.
  • [ 4/10/2008 ] Zeller Named Mr. Basketball: As expected, Washington's Tyler Zeller was named Mr. Basketball today by the Indianapolis Star. Zeller received 257 votes of the 345 ballots cast by both media and coaches throughout the state. Plymouth's Randy Davis finished second with just 22 votes. Zeller, who will continue his career next season at North Carolina, led the Hatchets to a decisive win over Fort Wayne Harding to capture the Class 3-A state crown.
  • [ 4/9/2008 ] Hutchinson to Replace Scott at CAI: Christian Academy has named Joshua Hutchinson as the school's new boys' basketball coach, the New Albany Tribune reported today. David Scott was forced to resign, and the ousted coach reponded publically, saying he was "dissapointed and still shocked by the way things transpired."
  • [ 4/7/2008 ] Combs Resigns, Vincennes Now Open: Vincennes coach Steve Combs made his departure official today, multiple sources confirmed. In 10 seasons as the Alices' boss, Combs, who was recently named assistant principal, totaled a 146-86 record.
  • [ 4/7/2008 ] Christian Academy's Scott Won't Return: The rumor mill has been active for nearly a week but today it was confirmed that David Scott will not return next season as Christian Academy's coach, the New Albany Tribune reported. Scott's team compiled a 14-7 record during the 2007-08 campaign, and he was the school's third coach in three seasons.

  • [ 3/18/2008 ] Brett Out at Loogootee: In the first known Southern Indiana coaching change of the season, Loogooteee boys basketball coach Steve Brett resigned Monday at a school board meeting, the Washington Times-Herald reports. Under Brett's leadership, the Lions advanced to the state finals three years ago, and he logged a 92-52 record at the school in six seasons. Previous to Loogootee, Brett was the boss at Seymour.
  • [ 3/17/2008 ] Washington Week on Hoosier Hills Hoops: With the Hatchets being the only true Southern Indiana representative competing in Saturday’s IHSAA State Finals at Conseco Fieldhouse, Hoosier Hills Hoops will preview the Class 3-A title game between Washington and Harding throughout the week in honor of coach Gene Miiller’s squad. Washington is playing in the 3-A title game for the second time in four seasons, and the school’s 14th state finals overall. In 2005, the Hatchets edged Plymouth 74-72 in overtime thanks to a half-court buzzer-beater by Luke Zeller, brother of current Washington stud Tyler Zeller. Fort Wayne Harding is playing for its second state championship – they won the title in 2001 when competing in Class 2-A – and is making their fifth appearance in the finals this decade (second as a 3-A school).

  • [ 3/16/2008 ] Vincennes JuCo Headed to Hutch: Coach Everick Sullivan and his Vincennes University squad are headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association finals in Hutchinson, Kan., and will face Salt Lake City College on Tuesday in the tournament’s opening round. The Trailblazers shellacked Globe, NY, last week in the district championship to earn a birth in the final 16. Sullivan and his staff actively recruit the Southern Indiana region, and currently have four players from the Hoosier State on their roster.
  • [ 3/16/2008 ] Southwestern's Scrogham Chooses Hanover College: 6-foot-5 swingman Zack Scrogham recently announced he will stay close to home and attend Hanover College. The Southwestern (Hanover) star choose coach Mike Beitzel's NCAA Division III program over serious interest from Centre College (Danville, Ky.) and the College of Mount St. Joseph (Cinncinnati, Oh.).
