BNL’s Ason Hacker to Olney Central

April 16, 2009

Ason Hacker, a 6-foot-2 guard from Bedford North Lawrence, committed earlier this week to Olney Central, a NJCAA Division I school in Illinois.

“We think Ason has the potential to be a very good player for us,” OCC head coach Mike Burris said.

“He has a college-ready body right now and he possesses great athletic ability. He’s very good at getting to the rim, which should bode well for him in our offense. Ason plays hard and competes on every play.”

Indiana All-Stars announced

April 16, 2009

Kendal BrownThree Southern Indiana players were announced this morning as members of the 2009 Indiana All-Stars.

Indiana Mr. Basketball Jordan Hulls, an Indiana recruit from Bloomington South, headlines the squad, which will face the Kentucky All-Stars June 13 in Indianapolis and June 14 in Louisville, Ky. Batesville’s Colt Ryan, an Evansville recruit, and Evansville Harrison’s Kendal Brown, who will attend Southern Illinois, are set to join Hulls on the 13-man roster.

Indianapolis Star writer Michael Pointer breaks down the all-stars in this preview, making note this will be the first summer the all-star series will be played in a one-weekend format.

Coach David Wood thinks the Indianapolis Star Indiana Boys All-Stars have the right mix of players to be successful.

There looks to be a solid inside presence, quickness and strong shooting both on the outside and in the paint.

Now, the West Lafayette High School basketball coach’s job is figuring out how to maximize that talent in a short time.

Courier-Journal: Meet Team Southern Indiana

April 13, 2009

Jody Demling, recruiting writer for The Courier-Journal in Louisville, featured Team Southern Indiana today on his popular recruiting blog:

There is a new grassroots travel basketball program in the area and what a start it was for Team Southern Indiana.

In its first year under director Matt Denison, TSI opened with a bang going 6-0 to capture the championship title of the 17 & under division of the Indybball.com tournament.

After wins over Indy Magic and Indy Jazz, TSI downed the Indiana Blue Devils, the Eric Gordon All-Stars and then the Central Kentucky Storm 71-69 in the title game.

“There is no program truly focused on growing the game and players in Southern Indiana,” Denison said. “We want to help players accomplish two things: become stronger, more confident players at their school next season, and receive a college scholarship or financial assistance to obtain an education at the university level.”
