Team Southern Indiana

New Southern Indiana Travel Program Unveiled

Matt Denison and Anthony Winchester announced today the creation of Team Southern Indiana, a travel basketball program set to launch in the spring of 2009.

"For years, high school and college coaches alike have called for us to launch this sort of operation for Southern Indiana players," Denison said. "With Team Southern Indiana, we look forward to working closely with area coaches to develop an organized, wholesome program that helps put the spotlight on Southern Indiana's talent."

The program will be fully operational with teams for each high school age in the spring of 2009, but a Class of 2010 team will take the court this spring and summer. Winchester, the program's co-director, is slated to serve as the team's coach.

Denison, who brings years of experience in managing youth basketball teams and tournaments, will serve as the organization's director.

"It was important that we get started early to ensure proper preparation," Denison said. "Our mission is not to compete with Indiana’s top tier programs, but rather to offer opportunities to the many college prospects – at all levels – in the area who go unseen.”

Winchester graduated from Austin in 2002, and was named to the Indiana All-Star team. In college at Western Kentucky University, he was named Sunbelt Conference Player of the Year and as an honorable mention on the Associated Press' listing of college all-Americans. Winchester played professionally in Spain's LEB league, one of Europe's most competitive.

"I'm looking forward to getting back home and working with Matt to develop a program that will bring more exposure opportunities to Southern Indiana players," Winchester added. "I understand first hand the importance of spring and summer basketball, and we want to not only provide a good opportunity for the kids, but also a solid environment."
