NEW ALBANY — Former Warren Central star Trequan Spivey scored 28 points and IU Kokomo scored an 80-70 road win at IU Southeast on Saturday at the IU Southeast Activities Center.

The Grenadiers led 35-31 at the half and they led 49-47 after a pair of free throws by junior guard Anthony Wales Jr. (Louisville/Mineral Area) gave them a 49-47 lead with 13:53 left. After a layup by former New Albany star Julien Hunter tied the game, a 3-pointer by senior forward Darian Porch (Indianapolis/Pike) gave the Cougars the lead for good.

Spivey’s 3-point play pushed the IUK advantage to 64-55 with 8:16 to go. Spivey then put the game away with back-to-back jumpers and four free throws down the stretch.

Junior guard Glenn Hill Jr., who leads the Grenadiers at 16.2 points per game, had a team-best 17 Saturday. He was one of three IU Southeast players in double figures. Freshman Gabriel Casillas Cruz (Puerto Rico) had 14 points, while senior guard Jared Osborne (Mt. Washington, Ky./Bullitt East) and freshman guard Caleb Brown (Jeffersonville/Charlestown) had 10 apiece in defeat.

IU Southeast shot 37.5 percent from the floor (24 for 64), but the Grenadiers were successful on 13 of their 14 free throw atttempts.

Hunter, an IUK sophomore, had 4 points and 4 rebounds in 23 minutes off the Cougar bench.

The Grenadiers (3-11) host Oakland City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
