GIRLS’ WIN OF THE WEEK | Dragons beat rivals, zero in on MSC title

Silver Creek has handled all Mid-Southern Conference comers, including 41-31 win over Salem on Saturday in the Hoosier Hills Hoops Win of the Week.

The victory makes the 17-1 Dragons 6-0 in MSC play, a half-game ahead of Corydon Central with a victory in hand over the Panthers.

The win was the third straight over a Salem team that had tormented the Dragons for years.

“This was a good win for our team,” Silver Creek coach Scott Schoen said. “It has become such a great rivalry game, arguably the best rivalry in Southern Indiana. We have had five of our games in past 10 years come down to one possession.”

The Dragons held Salem to 25 percent (10 of 40) shooting and 13 percent (2 of 15) from behind the 3-point line. They also forced 18 turnovers and out-rebounded Salem (8-6) by a 29-23 margin in the win.

Kynidi Mason-Striverson finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for Silver Creek, which has won four straight and hosts Madison (10-6) on Tuesday night.

“The game was two good teams who know each other extremely well competing,” Schoen said. “It had a sectional feel to it. We were able to get out of the gates, expended a ton of energy and then it became a knock-out, drag-‘em-out game. Points were difficult to come by.”
