USSSA Nationals: Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red takes second in 16U gold bracket

USSSA National TournamentTeam Southern Indiana 2012 Red

2012 Red got past Indiana Elite Storm 63-52 in the semifinals of the 16 and under gold bracket. Jeffersonville’s Jordan Ellis scored 15 points to lead a balanced team effort.

In the gold bracket final, Spiece Select Irwin fended off 2012 Red, 80-67. Providence’s A.J. Schmidt was a top-scorer for Spiece, finishing with 14 points. TSI was led by Jeffersonville’s Darryl Baker (16), Switzerland County’s Keegan Kincaid (13) and Jeffersonville’s Jordan Ellis (10).

2012 Red finished the tournament with a 6-1 record.

Team Southern Indiana 2013 Red

Kentucky Elite hammered TSI 2013 Red 83-56, bouncing TSI from the bronze bracket in the semifinal round. Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier’s Justin Moody led the team with 14 points. Dakota Thompson and Ridge Harris, both of Columbus East, finished with 13 and 10.

2013 Red finished the USSSA National Tournament with a 4-2 record.

TSI Boys’ Middle School Summer League – Week 4

Team Southern Indiana Boys' Middle School Summer LeagueWeek four scores and highlights from the Team Southern Indiana Boys’ Middle School Summer League at Nolan Fieldhouse:

Boilermakers 75, Bulldogs 63: Corydon’s Bronson Kessinger finished with 22 points and River Valley’s Chad Hudson added 14 as the Boilermakers used a late push to finish off the Bulldogs. Rock Creek’s Cameron Schmidt and Madison’s James Frazier led the Bulldogs in defeat with 28 and 26, respectively.

Sycamores 68, Aces 62: Parkview’s Miles Harvey poured in 29 points and Silver Creek’s Wade Costin contributed 20 as the Sycamores held off the Aces. Austin’s Markus Fleenor and Rock Creek’s Will Brown scored 24 and 23 to lead the Aces.

Irish 61, Hoosiers 60: Silver Creek’s Gabe Bauer netted a three-pointer as time expired in regulation play and then swished two free throws in overtime with less than a second remaining to lift the Irish over the Hoosiers. Madison’s Bryce Harmon and Lanesville’s Joe Ferree highlighted the Hoosiers with 26 and 13, respectively.

Irish 68, Bulldogs 46: Bauer finished with 22 points and Isaiah Blanton chipped in 12 as the Irish had no problem beating the Bulldogs. Rock Creek’s Cameron Schmidt scored a game-high 26 in the defeat, and Madison’s James Frazier added 18.

Aces 69, Hoosiers 41: Fleenor totaled 27 points and Brown chipped in 15 as the Aces rocked the Hoosiers. Borden’s Jacob Schafer scored 14 and Harmon added 11 in the loss for the Hoosiers.

Boilermakers 70, Sycamores 57: Kessinger racked up 21 points and Corydon’s Ryan Crawford put in 20, and the Sycamores got past the Sycamores.  Providence’s Mitchell Allender finished with 17 and Harvey 12 for the Sycamores.

TSI Girls’ Middle School Summer League – Week 4

Team Southern Indiana Boys' Middle School Summer LeagueWeek four scores and highlights from the Team Southern Indiana Girls’ Middle School Summer League at Nolan Fieldhouse:

Boilermakers 46, Bulldogs 24: Justice Burdin and Kaitlyn Henning, both of Charlestown, netted 19 and 10 points to lead the Boilermakers to victory. The Bulldogs were led in defeat by East Washington’s Ryana Watson (eight).

Irish 31, Hoosiers 27: New Washington’s Lexie James scored nine points and Scribner’s Jenna Shine chipped in eight to pace the Irish. The Hoosiers were led in the loss by Austin’s Kaitlin Embrey, who finished with a game-high 17 points.

Boilermakers 43, Irish 38: Burdin and Henning finished with 27 and 12 points to push the Boilermakers past the Irish. The Irish were led by Shine and Medora’s Carley McCammon; both had eight.

Hoosiers 43, Bulldogs 32: Embrey got 13 and Austin’s Hailey Misamore contributed 11 as the Hoosiers scored the victory. Taylor Drury and Bailey England, both of East Washington, scored eight and six points to lead the Bulldogs in defeat.

USSSA Nationals: TSI 2012 Red headed to gold-bracket semis with 5-0 record

USSSA National TournamentScores and highlights from Friday at the USSSA National Tournament in Fort Wayne:

Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red

2012 Red blew past Hoosier Force 85-61 in the first round of gold-bracket elimination play. Switzerland County’s Keegan Kincaid continued to pace the team, scoring 20 points. Jeffersonville’s Darryl Baker added 16 in the victory.

In the gold-bracket quarterfinals, 2012 Red manhandled JJKN Hoops, 71-32. Jeffersonville’s Jonathan Ellis led the team’s well-rounded effort with 10 points.

The team, which improved to 5-0 in the tournament, advances to Saturday morning’s semifinal versus Indiana Elite Storm.

Team Southern Indiana 2013 Red

After finishing 3-0 in pool play, 2013 Red was eliminated 76-51 in the first round of gold-bracket play by Spiece Indy Heat 2014. The Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier duo of Brock Kiesler and Justin Moody paced the team with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

With the first-round tournament loss, 2013 Red dropped to the bronze bracket. In a first round bronze game, the team outscored the Spiece Central Stars 27-12 in the third quarter in lieu of a 79-69 win. Moody paced the team with 24 points, and Columbus East teammates Kyle Taylor and Ridge Harris totaled 20 and 15.

2013 Red will play Saturday morning in the bronze-bracket semifinals.

USSSA Nationals: TSI 2012, 2013 Red teams still undefeated

USSSA National TournamentScores and highlights from Thursday at the USSSA National Tournament in Fort Wayne:

Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red

Jeffersonville’s Darryl Baker and Switzerland County’s Keegan Kincaid each totaled 12 points, and 2012 Red sailed to a 78-35 victory versus Spiece Gym Rats Stanley in the team’s second pool contest. Jeffersonville’s Jonathan Ellis added 10.

In their final game of pool play, Kincaid exploded for 34 points — including 10 three-pointers — and Jonathan Ellis totaled 21 as 2012 Red held off Team Blaze (Ind.) 86-78. With the victory, the team captured first place in their pool and receives a bye in tomorrow’s elimination bracket.

Team Southern Indiana 2013 Red

2013 Red cruised to an early lead and walloped the Indiana Hurricanes 87-63 to improve to 2-0 in pool play. Columbus East’s Ridge Harris tossed in 18 points; Louisville (Ky.) and St. Xavier’s Justin Moody both finished with 16. Other scorers in double figures: Jeffersonville’s Kortrell White (14), South Decatur’s Byron Balser (11) and Columbus East’s Kyle Taylor (11).

Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier’s Brock Kiesler and White each scored 16 points and three players — Balser, Moody and Taylor — added 13 a piece to lead 2013 Red over Spiece Hoosier Hoops 2013. With the win, the team improved to 3-0 and won their pool, earning a bye in tomorrow’s gold-bracket elimination play.

USSSA Nationals: TSI teams 2-0 after first day in Fort Wayne

USSSA National TournamentTeam Southern Indiana 2012 Red and 2013 Red began play Monday at the USSSA National Tournament in Fort Wayne’s Spiece Fieldhouse. Here are day one scores and highlights:

Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red

2012 Red shellacked Spiece Gym Rats Tapp 87-35 in the team’s opening game of pool play behind a total team effort that saw five players reach double figures. Silver Creek’s Grant Meyer racked up 20 points — including five three-pointers — to lead TSI, which also got double figures from Jeffersonville’s Jonathan Ellis (14), Switzerland County’s Keegan Kincaid (13), Jeffersonville’s Darryl Baker (12) and Jennings County’s Sam Hunt (10).

Team Southern Indiana 2013 Red

A tight game through nearly the first three quarters, 2013 Red built a lead late in the third and hung on to beat Spiece West Stars 63-56. Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier’s Brock Kiesler, a resident of Floyds Knobs, paced the team with 15 points. South Decatur’s Byron Balser added 13 and Columbus East’s Kyle Taylor contributed 11.
