Hanover College began its 2021-22 season with a 68-53 victory over IU Southeast on Friday evening at John Collier Arena in Hanover.
Ty Houston and Matt Munoz led the Panther with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Houston grabbed 12 boards for a double-double and Munoz had eight rebounds.
New Albany graduate Isaac Hibbard finished with eight points and knocked down two of his three 3-point attempts. He led the Panthers with six assists. IU Southeast, which opened the season with a 94-66 win over Simmons College before falling 75-68 to The Cumberlands on Wednesday, was paced by 13 points and 13 boards from junior Glenn Hill. Charlestown’s Caleb Brown added 9 points.
Hanover ran out to a 12-0 lead through the first four minutes of the contest and led 38-24 at the break. A 13-0 spurt early in the second half put the Panthers ahead 56-30.

For a few years now, the world of technology has sent the world into a new era. With the newspaper business trying to find its footing, sports journalism has definitely changed significantly. In my 25 years as a sports reporter, the industry has shifted in ways most never expected.
Local newspapers, particularly the Evening News and the Tribune, have done a fine job over the years providing readers with local basketball coverage, but the recent changes and staff reductions have limited what local newspapers can do.
The changes are massive and have been swift. That’s where Hoosier Hills Hoops comes in. Hoosier Hills Hoops has been around for 15 years, but now it is ready to step up its game.
Beginning now, Hoosier Hills Hoops will provide Southern Indiana with top-notch game coverage, game previews, audio and podcasts. Some of those things, like previews and game coverage, will begin immediately. Of course, Hoosier Hills Hoops founder Matt Denison will continue to provide radio calls on WXVW-1450 AM and host The Hoosier Report with Matt Denison, his daily radio show.
We will cover 21 schools from Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties with the potential for growth into other counties and for other sports. Hoosier Hills Hoops will cover as many basketball games as possible this season, will preview every boys’ and girls’ game every week and will air a scoreboard show podcast every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night throughout the season. We will also have a boys’ Game of the Week feature every Thursday and a girls’ Game of the Week feature every Sunday, we will name Players of the Week for both and we will track how local basketball players, including the Celtics’ Romeo Langford, are faring at the college and pro levels with full reports.
And it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Silver Creek girls, who open their season Saturday on the road against Brown County in our first Game of the Week, is the defending champion for the first time and will defend its state crown for the first time. Salem and Lanesville also appear to be state championship contenders. A few other programs — namely Jeffersonville, New Albany, North Harrison, Charlestown, Austin, Scottsburg, Corydon Central, Providence and Floyd Central — will attempt to reclaim their championship traditions beginning this season.
On the boys’ side, Silver Creek is the 2-time defending state champion … and that’s just one of many big stories.
But we’ll get to all that. Very soon.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Game Previews for Nov. 5-6 (for games from teams from Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties). NOTE: Girls’ game previews will appear on HoosierHillsHoops.com every Monday morning starting next week. Boys’ previews will appear each Thursday morning.

Kynidi Striverson is the leading returning scorer at 10.8. She also led the Dragons at 4.6 assists per game last year. … Abby Fleetwood returns for Brown County after averaging 20.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 4.3 assists for the Eagles as a sophomore last season. … Brown County lost just one starter from last year’s 9-7 team, which reached the sectional championship before falling to Brownstown.

MIAMI —
Romeo Langford scored a season-high 12 points and Boston completed a successful road trip to Florida with a 95-78 victory in Miami on Thursday evening.
Langford made four of his eight shot attempts, including going 2 for 5 from behind the 3-point line, and made both of his free throw attempts in the victory. He also had two rebounds and an assists and was plus-25 in his 27 minutes off the Celtics’ bench. It was his first double figure scoring night of the season.
After going scoreless in the first quarter, Langford drained a 24-foot 3-pointer 3 minutes into the second period. One minute later, Langford pulled the Celtics to within 29-28 with an offensive rebound putback dunk with 8:02 to go before halftime.
In the third, Langford connected on another 3 from the left corner with 1:10 remaining to put Boston ahead 69-56. With the game well in hand in the fourth quarter, the New Albany graduate made a layup to give his team a 92-66 lead.
A night after beating Orlando, the Celtics (4-5) had six players score in double figures, led by Jaylen Brown’s 17. Langford, Dennis Schroeder and Aaron Nesmith combined for 39 points to help the Boston bench outscore Miami’s 45-20.
“The bench scoring is what brought it home for us,” Celtics first-year coach Ime Udoka said. “Our bench really outplayed theirs. … Romeo and Aaron are playing really well.”
Jimmy Butler paced Miami, which suffered just its second loss of the season, with 20 points. Duncan Robinson added 16. All 17 of Robinson’s shots were 3-point attempts. The Heat, who entered the game with the league’s second-ranked offense, shot just 34.6 percent from the floor. Previous to Thursday’s loss, the Heat’s season low in points came in a 102-91 loss to Indiana on Oct. 23.
Langford and the Celtics have a night off before going to Dallas for their third straight road game.

ORLANDO, Fla. — New Albany graduate
Romeo Langford hit a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter and finished with three points in the Boston Celtics’ 92-79 road win at Orlando on Wednesday.
Langford, who drew an offensive foul moments before the 3-pointer, also had three rebounds in his 16 minutes of action.
The Celtics, who improve to 3-5 with the win, trailed 46-44 at halftime before a stellar defensive performance in the third quarter. Boston held the Magic (2-7) scoreless for the first 6 minutes of the third — after Orlando failed to score in the final 3 minutes and 42 seconds of the second period — and turned the 2-point deficit into a commanding 75-56 advantage heading into the final period.
The Celtics scored 16 consecutive points during the run.
Jaylen Brown led Boston with 28 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Al Horford had a double-double for Boston with 12 points and 12 boards. Wendell Carter Jr. and Cole Anthony had 13 points apiece for Orlando, which shot just 27 of 84 (32.1 percent) in the defeat.
Langford and the Celtics stay in Florida for a showdown at Miami on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at FTX Arena.
