Falcons beat Holy Cross as Heidbreder scores career high

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Air Force freshman Jake Heidbreder has scored season and career highs in each of his past two games. On Saturday, the former Floyd Central star scored 11 points as the Falcons won their third straight game, 72-53 over Holy Cross.

Heidbreder went 5-fo- 8 from the floor and finished with 11 points. He also had two steals, a rebound and an assist as Air Force improved to 3-1 on the season.

Heidbreder got the scoring started Saturday with a layup four seconds into the contest. His second layup, with 6:36 to go in the first half, put the Falcons ahead 19-14. Back-to-back Heidbreder buckets, including a 3-point play, gave Air Force a 40-27 lead with 13:19 remaining. His final basket came with 2:21 left and gave increased the Air Force margin to 67-49.

The game was part of the Sunshine Slam at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. The tournament continues today when the Falcons battle host Bethune-Cookman (1-3) at 12:30 p.m. Heidbreder and his teammates can be seen on flosports.com.

Senior guard A.J. Walker had a big game for Air Force. His 27 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals led the way for the Falcons, held the Crusaders to 37.5 percent from the floor (18-of-48).

Holy Cross (1-3), which missed all eight of its 3-point attempts, was led by 15 points from freshman guard Kyrell Luc.
