Coleman, Nevada pick up big MWC win over Bulldogs

RENO, Nev. — Nevada controlled the second half of Friday’s 77-73 Mountain West Conference victory over Fresno State at the Lawlor Events Center.

Former Jeffersonville star Tre Coleman was 1 for 3 from the field and 1 for 4 from the free throw line to contribute three points in the win. The sophomore also had two steals and an assist in the victory.

Fresno (13-5, 3-2) led by as many as seven points in the first half and held a 37-36 half-time lead. The Wolf Pack trailed 45-44 with 14:22 remaining before Nevada went on a 19-9 run and never trailed again. Nevada is now 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain West.

Nevada placed three players in double figures, led by junior guard Grant Sherfield’s 17 points. Junior guard Kevin Blackshear added 16 and junior center Will Baker scored 16 in the victory.

Fresno State got big games from a pair of juniors. Orland Robinson finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while Isaiah Hill had 22 points and four assists. The loss snapped the Bulldogs’ 3-game winning streak.

The Wolf Pack face 23rd-ranked Colorado State next. The Rams are 14-1 overall and 4-1 in the MWC heading into Saturday’s contest against Air Force. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 p.m. locally Tuesday.
