Jefferson, Raiders hold off Marshall, 81-79

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.Josh Jefferson had an off-night shooting but his Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders picked up an 81-79 victory at Marshall on Thursday.

Jefferson, a senior and former New Albany star, was just 2 for 8 from the field and 1 for 5 from behind the 3-point arc. He finished with seven points, three assists and a pair of boards.

Sophomore guard Camryn Weston, who made two game-winning free throws with 6 seconds left, led the Raiders with 19 points off the bench. Senior guard Donovan Sims added 17 points and seven rebounds and junior forward Deandre Dishman finished with 16.

Middle Tennessee (13-6, 4-2 Conference USA) has won four straight games heading into Saturday’s showdown with Western Kentucky (10-10, 2-5) at Bowling Green. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

As usual, Marshall (7-12, 0-6 CUSA) was led by sophomore guard Andrew Taylor (22 points, seven rebounds and three assists) and junior guard Taevion Kinsey (18 points, five assists, three rebounds) in defeat.
