Grenadiers upset Alice Lloyd 82-70 on the road

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. — A hot IU Southeast team went to Kentucky and handed Alice Lloyd its second loss of the season and its first in the River States Conference.

The Grenadiers (11-14, 8-5 RSC) won for the fifth straight time and the seventh time in their last eight games, 82-70. They’ve also won four of their last five games away from New Albany.

After leading 34-31 at the half, IU Southeast pulled away in the second half against the Eagles, whose only previous loss was in double overtime against Asbury.

IUS had five players score in double figures, led by junior guard Anthony Wales Jr. (Louisville/Valley), who finished with 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in the victory. Junior guard Ahmad Price (Louisville/Valley) had 16, while senior guard Jared Osborne (Mt. Washington, Ky./Bullitt East) and junior guard Glenn Hill Jr. (Louisville/Southern) scored 15 apiece. Sophomore guard Jathan Ritter (Bedford/BNL) scored all 10 of IUS’s bench points.

Alice Lloyd (20-2, 11-1 RSC) got a game-high 21 points from junior forward Will Philpot.

IU Southeast will go for its sixth straight win Saturday when its hosts Brescia (6-16, 4-9) at 1 p.m.
